The Apis Mechanism
[a.k.a The Buzzing Brooch]
Aside from being a steampunk wardrobe accessory, this piece is also kinetic. When the pronged brass piece seen on the left side of the photo is pushed downwards, it rotates the two gears; one of which rapidly oscillates an " ] "-shaped piece back-and-forth with its teeth. A spring then snaps the mechanism back to ready.
This motion creates an audible 'buzzing' noise. So I thought a couple brass bees would be appropriate.
